Job Description

Natural Intelligence, the USA affiliate for DesignBuilder Software Ltd., is expanding its sales force and seeks to place Software Sales Associates in the following regions: West; Northwest; Midwest; Midsouth; Northeast; and, Southeast. DesignBuilder Software’s flagship product, DesignBuilder EnergyPlus, is an industry leading, state-of-the-art tool that can provide information on building energy consumption, CO2 emissions, occupant comfort, daylighting effects, as well as compliance with ASHRAE 90.1, LEED, and much more.

The ideal candidate is someone with substantive DesignBuilder experience; however, substantive experience with other whole building analysis energy simulation software packages like DOE-2, TRACE, HAP, eQUEST, EnergyPro, and VisualDOE will suffice. This is a perfect way for an existing energy modeler to make additional income on the side. For someone who is already working, we require at least one-third time devoted to sales in order to meet our sales targets. The candidate we seek will have successful selling experience with small, medium and large organizations in both the private and public sectors and possess a strong technical acumen.

Natural Intelligence serves the energy efficient design needs of the green building market; comprising both new construction and existing buildings, these sectors have huge potential. The selected candidate will receive training in DesignBuilder. Compensation will be a combination of straight commission, bonuses and profit sharing.

Job Responsibilities

This sales position will require both inside and outside sales. While we will provide leads through our website, trade shows and repeat customers, prospecting and cold sales calls are also expected. This position integrates all aspects of the sales process - from prospecting and pre-qualifying potential clients to calculating cost estimates, preparing and delivering presentations, creating proposals and ultimately closing the sale.

Job Requirements

• Possess excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication and comprehension skills.
• Must have whole building analysis energy simulation software experience.
• Prior engineering and/or architectural software sales experience preferred, but not required.
• Knowledge of architectural engineering, building energy codes, building energy audits, ASHRAE energy standards, energy tax credit and green building programs.
• Experience in utilizing a lead management system.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule which includes occasional travel to customer sites and industry trade shows.

DesignBuilder is a complete 3-D graphical design modeling and energy use simulation program providing information on building energy consumption, CO2 emissions, occupant comfort, daylighting effects, ASHRAE 90.1 and LEED compliance, and much more.

Version 1 of DesignBuilder was launched in 2005 as the first Graphical User Interface to the US Department of Energy's EnergyPlus simulation engine and, 6 years on, it is still the most complete and easy to use EnergyPlus interface. Version 2 was released in May 2009 and added Building Information Modeling (BIM) interoperability through a gbXML import facility and integrated 3-D CFD (computational fluid dynamics) calculations linked to EnergyPlus. Version 3 was launched in August 2011 and adds a new, graphical user interface to EnergyPlus HVAC, including all of the ASHRAE 90.1 baseline system types. Additional features and functionality include Radiance daylighting, a Revit plug-in easing data import into DesignBuilder, and a new, high speed simulation engine.
